Dominican
Republic to defend the title in gold medal match
MAYAGUEZ, Puerto Rico, July 22, 2010 – Two-time defending
champions Dominican Republic advanced to the gold medal match of
the women’s volleyball tournament following a 3-0 (25-23, 25-12,
25-22) victory over Trinidad & Tobago at the XXI Central
American and Caribbean Games.
Prisilla Rivera and Gina Mambru each tallied 11 points while
Milagros Cabral and Annerys Vargas charted 9 and 8 respectively.
The Trinidadians, who had a 12-4 advantage in the blocking
department, had Krystle Esdelle and Kelly-Anne Billingy as their
best scorers with 15 and 12 points respectively.
“We are ready to go to the finals an get the gold medal again.
Congratulations to Trinidad & Tobago for a good match and they
are going to hurt some teams sooner than later,” Cabral said.
“We have to go against Costa Rica and play the way we did
today,” Esdelle said. “To get that bronze medal is one of our
objectives.”
